Okay, so, what is this show? It's a drama about a guy trying to get a casino built in Laughlin, Nevada (or at least the pilot is--I assume the casino gets built at some point), and every once in a while people burst into song. Except apparently the producers don't trust the actors to carry the musical aspect of the show, because they sing over the original produced performances of the songs so you can't really hear the actors singing at all. I don't get it. I mean, if you're going to do a musical, then get people who can sing. Or, more to the point, they have people who can sing so let them. Hugh Jackman can sing his tight little silver suited ass off and we all know it, so let the dude sing ferpetesake.
As far as the characters and the story and such, that's all fine, but really, they just lost me by not having the balls to actually, you know, do a musical.
Oh, but Jackman? Smokin' hot. And so is DB Woodside.

Fall is Near!
Hard to believe summer is almost over. But that means only a few weeks until my favorite shows come back on the air. I have to admit that, aside from Dr. Who, which I've loved for ages, none of the summer shows have really captured me. Saving Grace isn't bad, but I haven't really warmed up to it the way I hoped I might. Eureka is fun but has always struck me as a bit shallow. Burn Notice I've really enjoyed, and it's come the closest to dragging me in, so that show will probably get some repeat viewings. Overall, though, I'll be happier when Bones and Supernatural and Heroes all finally return.
I'm also looking forward to some of the new fall shows, although I don't know how many I'll be able to squeeze into my already full viewing schedule. I went to see Stardust this last weekend (awesome movie, by the way), and they showed previews of Bionic Woman and Journeyman, both of which look interesting to me. I'm also very interested in seeing Viva Laughlin. So it's looking to be an interesting and entertaining fall.

CBS Greenlights Jackman Pilot
Here's a bit of news I haven't seen on the usual sources.
According to Hollywood Reporter (via MovieWeb), CBS "has given a pilot order to "Viva Laughlin!" — a musical from 'Huff' creator Bob Lowry and Hugh Jackman
based on the BBC miniseries 'Viva Blackpool!'" Apparently it's a musical, and Jackman will not only produce, but also appear on the show, though not as a regular cast member.
I love Hugh. Sometimes, though, I wonder if he's cloned himself, because he's SO busy. And if he's cloned himself, why is there not a Hugh Jackman clone in my house? Right now? It's questions like this that keep me up at night.
