Fall is Near!

Hard to believe summer is almost over. But that means only a few weeks until my favorite shows come back on the air. I have to admit that, aside from Dr. Who, which I've loved for ages, none of the summer shows have really captured me. Saving Grace isn't bad, but I haven't really warmed up to it the way I hoped I might. Eureka is fun but has always struck me as a bit shallow. Burn Notice I've really enjoyed, and it's come the closest to dragging me in, so that show will probably get some repeat viewings. Overall, though, I'll be happier when Bones and Supernatural and Heroes all finally return.

I'm also looking forward to some of the new fall shows, although I don't know how many I'll be able to squeeze into my already full viewing schedule. I went to see Stardust this last weekend (awesome movie, by the way), and they showed previews of Bionic Woman and Journeyman, both of which look interesting to me. I'm also very interested in seeing Viva Laughlin. So it's looking to be an interesting and entertaining fall.

High School Musical 2

Tonight instead of Doctor Who I was forced to watched High School Musical 2. This is a disadvantage of having children. I found it amusing here and there, though I wasn't paying the greatest amount of attention to it. Both of my kids, though, said they liked it better than the first one. My son, who hates High School Musical, actually sat all the way through it and said he thought it had a lot more emotion than the first one.

I'm trying to force convince them to write reviews for me, but I'm not sure they're going to cave. Maybe if I offered them more allowance?

Burn Notice

I'm back from a well-deserved vacation, and just wanted to drop in to say that I'm still really enjoying Burn Notice. Not blogging it, but really enjoying it. And in spite of the fact that I like it, it's been renewed for a second season.

Saving Grace—Bless Me Father, for I Have Sinned

After a remarkably weak beginning, this week's episode grew into another enjoyable hour. Throwing priests in Grace's path--one of whom is her brother, whom we've already met--made the questions of faith far too texty rather than subtexy, at least in the beginning. As the story progressed, the presentation became more subtle, though it was still anvilicious at points. I do like the fact that Earl doesn't seem to be locked into a Christian belief system. His confession to Grace's brother was very nicely done. I also liked that Grace's brother the Father apparently has a checkered past with Rhetta (Laura San Giacomo). In any case, the murder mystery part of the plot seemed more certain of itself. It seems like the show just hasn't quite figured itself out yet. As long as it stays entertaining in its quest to find itself, though, I'll keep tuning in.

In other notes, we had the return of the Jesus cow, and I just noticed that Bailey Chase, late of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is one of Grace's fellow police officers—the third leg of last week's love triangle, in fact.
